(ADULTS ONLY) Is Anal Sex OK With Hemorrhoids?
A nervous reader asked...
Is it OK to have anal sex when you have hemorrhoids? Is there is a way to do it so that it doesn't hurt? Because the pain is killing me! But so is missing out on great anal...
Dear Nervous Anal Sex Loving Hemorrhoid Sufferer,
Normally, anal sex shouldn't hurt. However, it's no fun having anal sex while you have hemorrhoids.
Although you can engage in anal sex while you have hemorrhoids, it is better to postpone until they are healed. Pressure and friction during penetration can cause further discomfort, irritation, and pain. Also, bleeding hemorrhoids may place you at increased risk for STD infection, including HIV, since virii and bacteria can be transmitted more easily through an open wound.
The key to reducing pain is to use plenty of water-based lube. Using lots of lube can increase pleasure for both you and your partner.
The other key is to relax. Relaxation will also minimize or prevent the possibility of tearing the thin lining of the rectum, and make insertion easier and more comfortable. Some people relax by taking a hot bath. Others begin with a massage, starting with the glutes and inner thighs, then gently exploring the anal sphincter with a finger. As the sensations become more comfortable and pleasurable, some people experiment by placing more fingers inside the anus. Others might progress to a small sex toy, or be ready to be penetrated by a larger toy, or even a penis.
Communicating with your partner about what feels good and how you like to be touched is vital for enjoyable anal play. It is important to be aroused enough before insertion, also. This communication will help you both achieve that end, pardon the pun.
Of course whenever you have anal sex, whether you have hemorrhoids or not, it's safer to use condoms and water-based lube if you are not sure of your partner's STD/HIV status.
